"so I launched the Q12 for a round. 3 minutes in at 25m I thought I was toast, but flew into a little bubble and then just climbed away as sweet as anything up to 170m.
For the cream on the cake I was looking about 30 seconds short on flight time but found a bubble at 8m while I was setting up a landing, worked up to 20m, made the time, landed inside 3m, and won the heat.
My best ever f5J flight.
The EP glider Q11/12 is the new version of our very sucesfull Q10 and Q10.1.
The Q10 was designed such, that the model was as lightweight as possible.
It was supposed to be flown in contests according the national rules, which request using of (heavy) geared ferrite motor Speed 400.
When we designed the Q11, we took use from our long-years experience with DLG models.
The gliders, made with the foam/skin technology, flew much better, than those stick and film types.
The main reason was seemingly the overall improvement of aerodynamic properties.
The foam/skin design provides much better rigidity.
The A/R can be very high. The ailerons and brakes will not warp.
The A/R is about same as that of free flight power models.
Each half of the wing is made as single part. The dihedral is built in during the molding process.
As the radius of the bending is non-zero, the flap and aileron must not be side by side: there is a firm part in between.
The pod was designed to be used for many different types of models and equipment.
It is long such, that folding prop up to 14" diameter could be used.
The pod is very slick, yet it provides enough room for RC and power unit parts.
The bottom is a bit flattened to get even more room inside the pod.
The rear fuselage part consists of carbon/glass boom. It provides rather long tail arm for better flight stability.
The tail feathers are made in similar method as the wings. They are very lightweight.
The CG is in correct position even with the very lightweight components.
